Guidelines for employees in port facilities

  • An employee should wear a pass when coming in and out of port facilities
  • A port worker should wear a vest.
  • A vehicle should be parked in a designated parking lot.
  • Employees should actively cooperate with gate guards or security guards’ request for checks or search when coming in and out of port facilities.

Details of ISPS Code enactment

  • In the wake of the September 11 attacks, the International Maritime Organization (IMO)voted to take measures to strengthen maritime security at the 22nd Conference (November 2001).
  • A draft for the International Code for the Security of Ships and of Port Facilities was prepared through expert meetings (February-September 2002).
  • SOLAS Chapter XI-2 (Special measures to enhance maritime security) and the ISPS Code were newly established.
  • The IMO diplomatic conference adopted the ISPS Code on December 12, 2002 (effective on July 1, 2004) ※ ISPS Code: International Code for the Security of Ships and of Port Facilities

Composition: Preface, Part A, and Part B
  • Part A: Providing mandatory requirements in relation to SOLAS Chapter XI-2
  • Part B: Providing essential considerations to allow for in applying Guidance on the regulations of SOLAS Chapter XI-2 and ISPS Code Part A to relevant guidance
Mandatory regulations kept by governments, port authorities and shipping companies to prevent any actions that deteriorate the safety of vessels, passengers (crewmen), cargo and port facilities
  • Ships must have the ISSC to navigate after receiving approval for the ship security plan (SSP) and passing a security examination.
  • A port must assess security conditions and establish and enforce a security plan.
